We love our tiki drinks here at WHYM, so we couldn’t let GINuary go by without featuring a gin tiki drink, and we couldn’t think of any better example than the Singapore Sling. Originally called the Gin Sling, this classic dates back to the late 1800s at the Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. This one’s loaded up with fruity goodness. With gin as the base spirit, this cocktail gets shaken up with @heeringcherry , D.O.M. Benedictine, Cointreau, pineapple juice, lime juice, and just a touch of both grenadine and angostura bitters. The resulting concoction is deep, layered, and complex. For our Singapore Sling, we’re featuring Engine Gin. Engine is an organic gin from Italy that has soft floral notes in its botanicals. These play wonderfully off of the bold, sweet, fruity notes of the other spirits and juices of this old world classic. #GINuary

Our next featured classic comes from the early 20th century, as the human race first took to the sky in the earliest of airplanes. Long before a certain snarky actor launched a gin label of the same name, the Aviation was a treat enjoyed by many. Gin, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, and lemon juice get elevated with creme de violette to give this drink a wonderful floral taste and a color reminiscent of the open sky the first pilots journeyed through. For our Aviation, we’ve chosen to feature @hendricksgin . This gin’s reputation precedes itself. Its smooth body and the inclusion of cucumber in the botanicals plays off of the floral qualities of the creme de violette magnificently. #GINuary #ginlovers #seacoastcocktails #whymcocktails #gin #aviationcocktail

Our next cocktail to feature is not only bartender Kevin’s favorite gin cocktail, it just might be his favorite cocktail period: Clover Club. This drink is as classic as they come. Dating back to the times before American Prohibition, the Clover Club is named for the establishment in Philadelphia from which it was invented in the first place. The blend of flavors coming from London Dry Gin, Dolin Dry Vermouth, raspberry syrup and lemon juice is only taken to the next level with the addition of egg white to give the beverage a smooth, fluffy mouthfeel. We’re featuring @plymouthgin in this cocktail. Plymouth is a marvelous London Dry Gin being produced by the Blackfriars distillery. To this day they still distill Plymouth Gin with its original, over 200 year-old recipe, making a Plymouth Clover Club a time capsule of a beverage, bringing you back to the turn of 20th century America. #ginuary #whymcocktails

Legend has it this beautiful concoction of gin, lemon and honey was originally the invention of Titanic shipwreck survivor the Unsinkable Molly Brown. For our Ginuary’s Bee’s Knees, we couldn’t think of any better gin to showcase than @barrhillgin out of Vermont. Barr Hill uses a healthy dose of estate honey in its botanicals, making it play perfectly off of the lemon and honey already in the cocktail.
